Giving out tally bands
Tie each person to the band they will wear all day, at the desk, with the person standing there.
Tagging ties a band to a person. It sits next to the registration desk.
- Tap the person's name in the list. Paired to the desk, it jumps to whoever was just signed in.
- Hold their band to the back of the phone.
- A beep and a green confirmation mean it is theirs. The counter at the top shows how many of your entrants have a band.
Give the band out with the person standing there. Never tag a band to be handed on later: the wrong person on the water under somebody else's name is the one mistake the roll call cannot catch.
If it will not read
- Move the band slowly across the back of the phone. The aerial is usually near the top, and a thick case makes it worse.
- If it says the band belongs to somebody else, that band is already in use at this event. Use a different one.
- Nothing at all? NFC may be switched off in the phone's settings, the phone may be an iPhone, or the bands may be the wrong type. See Phones, iPhones and readers.
Next time
Bands belong to an event, so the same box comes out week after week with nothing to reset. Whoever picks up band 47 this Saturday is the person wearing band 47 this Saturday.
