When something goes wrong on the day
Bands that will not read, no signal, a dead phone, the wrong person coming up, and a site that will not load.
- A band will not read: Is it an Android phone, with NFC on? Move the band slowly over the back of the phone. Still nothing? Mark them out or in by hand on the tally board, and carry on.
- No band reads at all, on any phone: The bands may be 125 kHz rather than NFC. Nothing will ever read them. Use the manual buttons for the day.
- It says “do not launch”: Working as intended: the beach master has that fleet held. Ask them. Do not release it yourself.
- No signal: Keep tapping. The scans upload when the signal returns. Use the paper count for any decision in the meantime.
- A phone dies or is dropped: Nothing is stored only on that phone. Open the station on any other device and carry on.
- The wrong person comes up: The band was given to somebody else earlier. Check the entry, clear the band and give it out again. The change log shows who did what.
- Somebody entered the wrong class: Open their entry and use Change class. It keeps their band and check-in.
- Somebody paid but shows unpaid: Sign them on. A payment can take a little while to arrive. Sort it out afterwards.
- No sound: Tap the screen once, and check the sound button at the top right.
- The site will not load: Switch to paper straight away. Do not wait. Put the record right afterwards.
When in doubt, the answer on the day is always the same: run it on paper and put the record right afterwards. Never keep people waiting on a screen.
